Our excursion today takes you to the magnificent medieval mountain castle of St. Hilarion, which every visitor to Northern Cyprus simply must see. After that, we will visit the Bellapais Monastery, which is considered one of the most beautiful masterpieces of Gothic art in the Middle East. As far as is known, the first monks who settled here were the Augustinians. In 1187, these monks had to flee from Jerusalem, which was then conquered by Saladin. After that, we will drive to the harbor where we will see the imposing fortress that dominates the entrance to the harbor. This fascinating building offers a wonderful view of the entire city. The fortress also houses a museum of old ships, where some of the oldest shipwrecks are displayed along with the cargo they carried.
